Paula was born in London and raised in Croydon and she began her musical career as a singer; at the age of 12, she had the opportunity to learn to play the tuba, where she found her natural musical home. She played tuba regularly with the Croydon Schools' Band and the Youth Orchestra, later taking up the bass trombone.

Paula regularly plays with the Croydon Symphonic Band, the London Gay Symphony Orchestra, the Women Of the World Orchestra, and many others. She has played as a professional and amateur in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Spain and the Channel Islands, as well as some of the most prestigious concert halls in the UK.

In 2010, Paula was appointed Conductor of the Croydon Brass Band and she led their Centenary Series of Concerts. In addition she is the Associate Conductor of the All Saints Concert Band.
